The host is Branford Marsalis who refers to this event as "the recording premier" of the Mingus Big Band. Joe Locke solos on tracks a and d. On track c, an unidentified member of the woodwind section solos on soprano saxophone and a flute is also clearly audible. At the end of the program, Marsalis lists the band members but does not mention which members of the sax section performed on these instruments.
